OMEGA Begins its Official Timekeeping - At the Paralympic Games Paris 2024

The summer of sport in Paris has been reignited once again, as the Paralympic Games officially begins. Coinciding with the colourful Opening Ceremony along the iconic Champs-Elysées, OMEGA’s countdown clock near the Eiffel Tower finally reached zero, signalling the start of this inspiring competition, and the start of the brand’s role as Official Timekeeper.

Taking place until September 8th, the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 is welcoming an expected 4,400 athletes, who will compete in 22 sports in front of a global audience.

OMEGA first timed this competition at Albertville 1992. The partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has grown ever since then and is a natural continuation and evolution of OMEGA’s role as Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games - a responsibility it has now accepted on 31 occasions since 1932.

There will be 549 individual events to measure at this year’s Paralympic Games. Each one with its own specific requirements and category challenges. However, OMEGA arrives with decades of experience and innovation – providing unquestionable results at the moments that matter.

Along with many of the same technologies used at the Olympic Games - including electronic starting pistols and photofinish cameras - OMEGA will also implement specific equipment that is unique to the Paralympic Games, including flashing start lights for deaf competitors, and a fifth beam in its Photocell technology to detect the body patterns of athletes in wheelchair races.

With a new cauldron lit, and the Parisian crowds back in the venues, OMEGA is ready to record all the thrilling close finishes and medal-winning results that each day will bring.
