Cité du Vin - welcomes five new wine partners

Porto & Douro (IVDP) in Portugal, Iter Vitis Italy, Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand, the Bosnia & Herzegovina and the Sauternes-Barsac appellation have officially joined the Cité du Vin list of wine partners this year. The 2024 intake is the latest addition to the selection of organisations, inter-professional bodies, chambers of commerce and regional associations that already partner the Foundation for wine culture and civilisations (which manages the Cité du Vin). In all, around 50 wine-growing regions, from Bordeaux and around the world, have chosen to join forces with the Cité du Vin by offering a selection of “ambassador” wines throughout the year for tasting at its various on-site activities. This vital role helps to make visitors aware of the diversity and quality of French and international wines.

New partners in 2024

No fewer than five new wine regions have become partners of the Cité du Vin in 2024. Close to Bordeaux or from the other side of the world, these five new partners have made a one- to three-year commitment to the Foundation for wine culture and civilisations (with the possibility of renewal) by providing a selection of ambassador wines that can be discovered in the coming weeks.

Porto & Douro (IVDP): already in partnership with Wines of Portugal – Vinhos de Portugal, the Cité du Vin is extending its selection of Portuguese wines by joining forces with the legendary Port and Douro region. A special after-work tasting workshop will be dedicated to this region at the end of the year (on 19 December) to discover more of its specific characteristics. Iter Vitis - Italy: the range is also being expanded in Italy (already a partner via the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG) through the Iter Vitis Europe network, which enables links to be forged with the entire Italian wine sector. Two tasting workshops are already in preparation: one devoted to red wines in November and the other to white wines, scheduled for early 2025. Hawke’s Bay - New Zealand: this wine region located near the capital is also very advanced in terms of wine tourism (like the Cité du Vin, it is a member of the Great Wine Capitals network). Visitors will be able to discover Hawke’s Bay wines in the Belvedere as from July. Bosnia-Herzegovina Chamber of Commerce: a spotlight on this little-known wine-producing country, whose historic city of Mostar has been designated European City of Wine 2024. Check back in September for an after-work tasting workshop full of discoveries. Sauternes-Barsac: the Bordeaux wine appellation, which needs no introduction for its dessert wines, is one of the 2024 partners of the Via Sensoria Sensory tasting journey. From the end of March until the beginning of November, the Via Sensoria Winter Pavilion is featuring a wine emblematic of the appella-tion, with generous and comforting aromas.

Our wine-sector partners, ambassadors from all over the world

The Foundation for wine culture and civilisations has around 50 wine-sector partners from around the world. Coming from the Bordeaux region, from other French regions and from the five continents (e.g. South Africa, Australia, Georgia, the United States, Argentina), the wine-sector partners offer around 50,000 bottles of wine each year, which are then tasted by the 400,000 visitors to the Cité du Vin – in the Belvedere, on the Via Sensoria Sensory tasting journey, in tasting workshops, and at cultural events. Carefully selected, they represent both the diversity and the quality of the wines from their region and help give the Cité du Vin its international identity.
